The REFORMERS project is thrilled to announce its participation in the highly anticipated POCITYF final event 2026, taking place on September 29-30, 2026, in the historic city of Évora, Portugal. Under the theme “Historic urban centres driving climate neutrality: POCITYF lessons and pathways,” this event will mark the culmination of years of groundbreaking work in integrating sustainable energy solutions into heritage-rich urban environments.
Why REFORMERS is Joining the POCITYF Final Event 2026
As a Horizon Europe project dedicated to the development and roll-out of self-sufficient Renewable Energy Valleys (REVs) across Europe, REFORMERS shares a core mission with POCITYF: accelerating the green transition, achieving climate neutrality, and securing local energy resilience.
One of the strongest bridges between our two projects is the Dutch city of Alkmaar. Alkmaar has proudly served as one of POCITYF’s two Lighthouse Cities, pioneering positive energy districts within its historical constraints. Simultaneously, Alkmaar is home to the REFORMERS Flagship Valley at the Boekelermeer industrial park, where we are demonstrating how a local, decentralised energy system can achieve 100% self-sufficiency.
By attending the POCITYF final event 2026, the REFORMERS consortium aims to absorb the invaluable lessons learned by POCITYF’s pilot cities. Understanding how the specific constraints of historic urban centres shape the implementation of renewable technologies is crucial for REFORMERS as we guide our own six replication satellite valleys across Europe in their decarbonization journeys.
What to Expect at the Event in Évora
Historic cities face a unique challenge on the path to climate neutrality: introducing modern energy solutions while strictly respecting urban cultural heritage. The two-day gathering in Évora will provide deep insights into how these challenges can be overcome. Highlights of the POCITYF final event 2026 will include:
- Expert Roundtables and Light Talks: Engaging discussions on citizen engagement, leveraging data for deployment, and strategies for carrying the POCITYF legacy forward.
- Targeted Training Sessions: Practical insights designed for city practitioners and urban experts, translating POCITYF’s replication plans into actionable steps for other municipalities to uptake.
- UNESCO-listed Heritage Tour: A guided walking tour through Évora’s historic centre to see firsthand how and where POCITYF solutions have been successfully installed without compromising the city’s unique cultural setting.
Experts from Évora and Alkmaar, along with representatives from six Fellow Cities and the wider POCITYF consortium, will be present to share their direct experiences.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
The transition to clean energy cannot happen in a vacuum. It requires scaling up successful, localized concepts—like POCITYF’s Positive Energy Districts—into broader, self-sufficient Renewable Energy Valleys. The POCITYF final event 2026 offers an unmissable opportunity for the REFORMERS team to connect with European urban experts, share our digital twin modeling capabilities, and collaborate on the future of Europe’s sustainable cities.
