The REFORMERS project video is now online!

Categories: News

The transition toward European energy self-reliance is fundamentally a research and integration challenge. The REFORMERS project announces the publication of its official video, now available on YouTube, providing a detailed overview of the initiative’s scientific and technological framework under the Horizon Europe programme.

Watch the REFORMERS project video on YouTube HERE

In just under five minutes (4:50), the video offers an in-depth perspective on the ongoing research, testing and validation activities being conducted across our demonstration sites. Whether you are an energy sector professional, a local policymaker, a potential project partner or simply a citizen passionate about Europe’s green transition, this video offers a clear look at how we are pioneering the Renewable Energy Valleys (REVs) of tomorrow.

What to expect from the REFORMERS project video

Rather than presenting fully commercialised, off-the-shelf market solutions, the video emphasizes the early-stage research environment where multi-vector energy systems are currently being integrated, modeled, and evaluated under real-world operational conditions.

It illustrates our systemic approach by focusing on the primary Flagship Valley in Alkmaar, alongside the Replication Valleys established across six diverse satellite regions in Europe. Viewers gain direct insight into how pre-commercial technologies, such as hybrid electrolysers, multi-scale storage systems, and carbon capture units, are monitored to assess their technical viability, grid impact, and socio-economic integration.

By validating complex interactions today within a structured research environment, REFORMERS is laying the foundational evidence required for future industrial deployment and regional energy governance.

Research, testing and real-world impact

At the core of the REFORMERS research methodology is the optimization of existing regional energy assets. Rather than focusing solely on adding new generation capacity, the project investigates how to bridge generation and consumption gaps by coupling electricity, heat, biomethane and green hydrogen networks. Through advanced digital tools, including the REFORMERS Digital Twin and localized control architectures, the research aims to maximize the utilization of locally produced energy, effectively minimizing curtailment and operational waste across peri-urban and industrial ecosystems.

It is important to note that the innovative solutions, storage tools and energy upgrades shown in the video are currently going through a rigorous research and testing phase. By testing these technologies on the ground today, we are ensuring they are reliable and ready for scale-up tomorrow.

But REFORMERS is about more than just technology; it is about people. One of the core messages highlighted in the video is our commitment to generating positive socioeconomic impacts. By creating localized energy systems, replacing natural gas in social housing, and empowering citizens to generate and store their own power, the project aims to build stronger, more resilient communities. We want to ensure that the European green transition is fair, inclusive, and directly benefits the local economy.

Where to catch the REFORMERS project video next

You don’t just have to watch it on YouTube! Over the coming weeks, the REFORMERS video will be featured across all our social media channels through a dedicated series of posts.

Furthermore, the video will serve as a key visual introduction to our work at upcoming conferences, workshops, assemblies, and in-person industry gatherings throughout Europe. We are excited to use it to spark conversations and foster new partnerships.
